Quilted placemats improve the appearance of a well-set table. Offering a broad range of patterns, these mats make great decorative gifts, especially when they blend well with the dining room decor, as suggested by Whipstitch. Personally, we love to make new placemats with the changing seasons as it constantly gives our dining area a fresh look.
To make a quilted mat, place a piece of foam in between two decorative fabrics and use an adhesive to bind the foam to the fabrics. Use a sewing machine to make quilted line patterns on the fabric, trim the edges and sew a bind around it using a tape-maker or sewing machine.
Quilted placemats are so much fun and easy to make. They also make great housewarming gifts. You can create circular mats by following the Imagine Gnats tutorial or below video.
