The Quilts That Seem to Remind Us of Home

We all have differing quilts that remind us of summers at our Grandparents house, or spending a holiday with a Great Aunt or our own beds as children. For some reason, they remind us of home.

We’d like to thank Alena, Pam and Nancy for sharing their work with all of us. These quilts may remind many of us of home…

from: Alena Mae Doty: “I saw the Grand Mothers Flower Garden Quilt today. Thought I share mine. Took six years to make. Pieced and quilted by me. My husband die cut the fabrics for me. I did the English paper piecing method.”

Many of us grew up with Grandmother’s Flower Garden. It will forever remind us of home. Alena’s uses a wonderful mix of tranquil colors. We know it will say “home” for generations.

from: Pam Greer Redden: “On Eagles Wings , paper pieced approx 3270’pieces”

Pineapple blocks can have a real antique feel to them. The Kansas City Star helped make the pattern popular in 1931. We can all say “bravo” to the amount of work that went into this one and “congratulations” on its completion! It is beautiful.

There are many differing basket (or vase) motifs with flowers. Nancy’s with its central stem is much like the traditional “Flower Vase” or “Friendship Lily”. The use of 4 patch sashing that coordinates with the vase gives it all a calm and vintage look.
